Pirou Castle was built in the 12th century on an artificial island protected by three moats, five fortified gates, and high ramparts. It is the oldest Norman castle. An ancient legend recounts the metamorphosis of the castle’s occupants into geese to flee Scandinavian assailants. Discover: the bakery, press-house, chapel, Plaids hall, the old dwelling, the parapet walk with its fine shale roofs.
