The manor of Donville is a magnificent property in wallow of the marshes area of Cotentin and Bessin (the only one to be classified in France by the cultural monuments) whose traces date from the 11th century. In 1778, it has been transformed with period furniture and a dress collection from the past.
The manor of Donville was the place of unimaginable fighting until June 17th, 1944 when many civilians and American soldiers lost their lives. Hand-to-hand fighting which inspired the screenplay of the famous film of Steven Spielberg “Saving Private Ryan”

The American soldiers of the 101st air assault called this battlefield Bloody Gulch.
Today, it’s a unique archeological memorial in France displaying weapons and munitions remained in the earth.
Every year in the month of June, the manor show a demonstration of this terrible battle with evening shows and exhibitions during the day.
