Destination baie du Cotentin

This territory is renowned for its role in D-Day and the Battle of Normandy. Every year, it commemorates the anniversary of the Allied landings in June 1944. In addition to its rich historical heritage, the area is also noted for its abundant wildlife and plant life, particularly in the Marais du Cotentin et du Bessin regional nature park.

In Sainte-Mère-Église and its surroundings, visitors can immerse themselves in the daily life of the French people under the Occupation, or find out about the battles through visits to numerous museums: the World War II Museum, the Airborne Museum, the D-Day Experience and the Utah Beach Landing Museum.

Further south, in the marshes, visitors can enjoy a remarkable natural environment with a river cruise on the Taute or an electric boat ride.

Focus on the Domaine de Beauguillot national reserve

Located in the heart of the Bay of Les Veys, this reserve covers almost 820 hectares. It is jointly managed by the Conservatoire du Littoral and the Domaine Public Maritime.

Nestled within the marshes, this 820-hectare haven of biodiversity comprises ponds, wetlands, dunes and mudflats that are home to a large number of species of birds, shellfish, mammals, amphibians and reptiles. Every winter, 35 000 waterfowl and numerous birds of prey shelter in this protected area, sharing it with a colony of harbour seals: a spectacular sight !

For birdwatching enthusiasts, the hides offer year-round opportunities to spot brent geese, Eurasian wigeons and ringed plovers, among others. Guided tours, suitable for all, are also available to find out about the reserve, its functions and its inhabitants.
